CAMEOS is an expert system for the diagnosis of common diseases in primary care. It is designed to be integrated into the routine clinic workflow of an average primary care physician. As any expert system it contains a knowledge base, inference engine, input and output modules. Knowledge base is hard-coded to the inference engine currently with provision for later decoupling and a integration with a learning module. Inference engine comprises an algorithm developed by the principal author using set theory in Discrete Maths. The entire algorithm is designed to simulate the hypothetico-deductive type of reasoning considered to be a common reasoning mode among doctors. The input module is a simple html file delivering the required parameters to the program. The physician user interviews the patient and enters the data into a form in the html file which is subsequently submitted to the server. The inference engine is programmed in php ver 5 and resides at the server. The program output again is an html file which is generated at the server by the inference engine and delivered over the internet.
