9. CAROTID PULSE

CAROTID PULSE CHECK


1) Keep a finger at the mid-line of chin
2) Slide the finger down the mid-line of throat until you feel the bone of the voice box
or Adam's apple
3) At the first feel of a bone slide the finger to the left or right until the bone feel ends
and a groove is felt
4) Somewhere near the end of the bony feel a pulse is felt if present which is carotid
pulse
5) Absence of carotid pulse is a sure sign of cardiac arrest
6) If you cannot feel the pulse assume it is absent
